In the workplace, motivation plays a critical role in selecting specific behaviors and in meeting the required objectives. Therefore, some factors are more motivating than others and provide additional evidence regarding the impact of workplace dynamics and how individuals respond to different events and practices. In the healthcare field, it is expected that all patients will receive the same level of treatment and respect; however, may be difficult from time to time to stay motivated when there are significant factors that interfere with the motivation to perform the required tasks. Based upon Expectancy Theory, behaviors are selected when there are specific factors that may warrant rewards which will positively impact their wellbeing (Schmidt, 2002). It is important to recognize these motivators and to demonstrate their impact on patient care and wellbeing in different ways (Schmidt, 2002).


As a healthcare professional, motivation is a critical factor in the daily activities represented through patient care and other related objectives. Therefore, it is important to identify areas of weakness in order to accomplish the required tasks on a daily basis. From a positive perspective, the position is highly rewarding, particularly when I am able to help my patients during their time of need and facilitate the recovery that they deserve. This is very important to me and provides me with much satisfaction and contentment in the belief that I have chosen the appropriate career path. In addition, the ability to help others in different ways is a very rewarding experience and provides me with significant opportunities for personal and professional growth in different ways.

On the other hand, current conditions in the organization may lead to conflicts and turmoil amongst employees, particularly when different work styles and approaches to patient care are taken into consideration. Therefore, it is important to identify the areas where negative impacts arise and to develop new strategies to improve outcomes. This is best accomplished by addressing these concerns firsthand with the management team and discussing possible methods to improve upon these weaknesses in an effort to produce desirable outcomes. It is important as a healthcare organization to recognize where changes are required and to reflect upon these needs in a manner that is consistent with the objectives of high quality patient care and treatment. These efforts will also engage employees when their concerns are addressed and will likely motivate them to perform their roles as effectively as possible. The opportunity exists within an organization to reflect upon the challenges associated with organizational change as a key driver in supporting effective outcomes and relationships between colleagues and also with patients.


The concept of Expectancy Theory demonstrates the importance of motivation in shaping specific behaviors that occur in the workplace environment. For employees, motivation drives their behavior in many different ways and reflects a means of establishing a new precedent to identify and address changes as required in order to improve outcomes. Patient care is a critical factor in supporting the development of new ideas that motivate employees to maximize their performance by using specific behavioral interventions to improve outcomes. Therefore, from an organizational point of view, it is important to provide employees with the tools and resources that are necessary to increase their motivation and focus to perform the required tasks in the best possible manner. This will support the ongoing development of new perspectives and approaches to task management so that employees remain motivated and the tasks that they perform are executed properly at all times. This is the key factor in promoting successful results for long-term success.
