Based on this case study, Visteon Automotive Systems has learned a valuable lesson in developing a quality Performance Technology system. The fourth lesson learned by Visteon is perhaps the most critical because it outlines the necessity for an organization to have a practical and useful PT system to understand why people do what they do in order to better improve upon performance and processes. This is a key challenge that many manufacturing and customer-service companies face every day in seeking to improve quality performance within the organization. A quality PT system will analyze the psychological thought processes shaped behind why the employees are acting the way that they are but more importantly a useful PT system may also delve into the thought process behind the official company processes that employees use.
Essentially, the main goal of a PT system is to analyze the weaknesses in a company’s processes, employee development and improve overall performance. The PT system seeks to analyze current weaknesses in order to find ways to make improvements. Process improvement serves as one key component to increasing performance. However, employee development and cognitive thought processes are also key components to the PT system which will be identified as areas for improvement. This is a lesson that Visteon has clearly learned from its Educational, Training & Development department. Without a quality PT system in place, the company’s employee and process performance levels cannot improve and the company will continue to allow itself to make the same mistakes without learning from areas of necessary improvement through the application of the PT system.
