Successful or Not

When determining whether or not someone is successful, one should make a logical decision based on both what they see and experience in that person. Long-term and short-term results, successes and failures of the person and their business as well as personal life should all be taken into account. Some people may seem to be very successful at first, but after a period of time, you will find that they are actually not that successful in the grand scheme of things. While a person may be successful in terms of business, they may fall short in other areas of their life- such as their romantic life. People who strive for success in their personal life may see failures in their business life. Balancing success in all areas of one’s life can be very challenging. In order to be a successful person, one must be able to maintain a healthy work life, home life, and sense of self.

What Makes a Good Teacher

Teaching is probably one of the toughest jobs to do in the world- one of the most serious jobs as well. The methods teachers use to educate and shape their students can affect the outcome of those students’ lives. Good teachers not only need to have passion for their job, but they also need to possess a wide variety of interpersonal skills and educational knowledge. Before determining whether or not a teacher is good or bad, one must first go deeper to define the definition of what constitutes a good teacher. I do not agree with Parker J. Palmer’s theory that the key to a good teacher is the ability to teach passionately.

Lowering Drinking Age

The topic of the drinking age limit in the United States has always been a heated debate. Some want to lower the age limit to 18 years old while some want to keep the age limit at 21 years old. The truth is, most people under the age of 21 are often exposed to and periodically consume alcoholic beverages. Often, this type of drinking can lead to a behavior known as binge drinking- a serious and life threatening condition. However, despite the fact that underage drinkers may drink irresponsibly, the legal drinking age could be to blame for the high-risk behavior and the responsibility of drinking appropriately should be up to the individual and not the courts. This is why the legal drinking age should be lowered to 18 years old in the United States.

Phenomenon of Plagiarism

Who would have thought Martin Luther King’s Speech “I Have a Dream” was subsequently inspired, or more likely noted as copied, from the speech of another African American Preacher Archibald Carey (Kernan, 1990)? Did he say similar words, or could it be that being able to hear Carey’s speech, he was able to coin the idea of the said speech? Being a more popular individual, King’s speech was more recognized than that of Carey’s. This is the reason why it is most often misconstrued that King plagiarized another preacher’s speech and presented it as his own. This instance can suppose the idea that people might be confused about what plagiarism is?

Opportunities and Challenges of Environmental Protection

The environment is everything around us, the plants and animals, the houses, the air that we breathe, the water, and the land that we cultivate. On the other hand, the environment is a source of resources which we need to protect for our livelihoods. Especially, we should find some sustainable way to pursue our recreational activities, like fishing sports in the ocean. In addition, people should sustainably use the pants and trees for food and fossil fuels. Why should we find sustainable ways to pursue recreational and economic activities? this will help us to understand the problem and know how we can develop solutions to save our environment, and it is not only for us , but also for the future generation.

Homeporting Aegis Warships In Rota Spain

Currently, all navy destroyers support real world mission and provide ballistic missile defense (BMD) to all fleet commanders under the current deployment cycles.  With the growing number of state-sponsored terrorism and rogue states, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its Allies are at risk of attack.  All NATO countries should support BMD program to ensure ballistic missiles technology (BMT) is not gained by adversaries. Thus, NATO countries should acquire BMD ships to support the objectives of BMD program.

Defining America Through Language A Rhetorical Analysis of Presidential Speeches

Being an American can be defined in numerous ways. One of the ways to define America is through analyzing the speeches of prominent American presidents and speakers. In this paper, Barrack Obama’s speech “A More Perfect Union”, and George Bush’s “Address to the Joint Session of Congress and the American People’’ will be analyzed critically- with special focus on typical American rhetoric. Martin Luther’s “letter from Birmingham jail” is also mentioned in this paper. Barrack Obama defines the American people as people united on a common cause who believe in unification. George Bush defines Americans as a brave and united people- ready to sacrifice for each another in times of adversaries. In Martin Luther King’s speech he describes the American people as naive and uninterested in justice for failing to support his fight for equality. All three speakers define America’s unity in different ways, but they all use similar rhetorical tools.

Hydraulic Fracturing Problem in New York

Hydraulic fracturing has been practiced for several years in New York. This dates back to the 19th century and is still an issue for the state officials. It denotes the practice of kindling shallow rigid rock oil wells. The practice seems to have influenced the extraction of other valuable resources like water and gas. Essentially, different chemical combinations were implemented. Currently, the practice poses health and environmental threats to the populace (Law, et al, 1993). Concerns about the pollution of ground water and perceived gas leaks have accelerated cancer infections. A major effect of these practices has been witnessed in the central New York and Pennsylvania states (New York Marine Sciences Consortium, 2011).

The Phenomenon of Plagiarism

Nobody ever would have thought that Martin Luther King’s speech of “I Have a Dream” was subsequently inspired, or more likely copied, from the speech of another African American preacher named Archibald Carey (Kernan, 1990). It appears that he used similar words, or was possible that upon hearing the speech, he created his own version.  Due to his popularity as a public figure, King’s speech was better recognized than Carey’s, and this is the reason why it is often misconstrued that King plagiarized another preacher’s speech and presented it as his own. This introduces the concept of plagiarism,  how it evolved, historical trends, and current methods. In the following discussion, these concerns will be evaluated to determine the relevance of this practice throughout language use.

Education As Commodity – The Source of Alienation?

Under the conditions of uncertainty and transition, people often look for explanation of what the reason. They are driven by the necessity to know and understand. Since Marx is famous for viewing capitalism under a microscope and predicting various recessions within a capitalist system, it is not surprising that attention to him has risen in the recent years.  Nowadays, the most controversial question posed to our lifestyle is what went wrong in our capitalist and Western life styles. Why did we have to face the global economic crisis and a subsequent recession? From the point of the young generation, the question can be posed in a different manner: what we should do, in order to succeed in the unstable and unpredictable environment, where traditional ways of development do not always guarantee success? In this regard, Marx would argue that the problem is the capitalist system itself and the principle of alienation as its corner stone. The aim of this essay is to apply Marx’s alienation theory to the situation of contemporary American students. In this regard, attention is paid to the correlation between higher education, job crisis and student debts.

When An Individual Is Alienated

In the development of human civilization, various societies were characterized by the presence of inequality and division between various layers of society. In this regard, inequality might be conditioned by various reasons, one of which might be the structuring of a society according to a certain criterion. Although the contemporary age has brought us human rights and supremacy of equality over segregation and intolerance, we still see economically-structured globalised world, which corresponds to our structure of society. In this regard, various layers of society become alienated in this or that way. One of the ways to explain the situation might be the theory of alienation by Marx, which was developed in “Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts of 1844”.
