Reading Experiences Essay

My definition of a good reader has to embody a few different criteria that I believe are very important when reading anything. The number one thing when considering a piece that makes a reader good is whether they understand the context of the material, no matter what it is. If the reader does not understand contextually what the piece is referring to, it will be nearly impossible for them to truly analyze a piece of writing.

Examining the Potential Development of a General Theory for Improving Team Communication

Abstract

Improving team communication as a means of improving organizational function has been the subject of a vast amount of research. Much of this research focuses on specific types of organizations, and often takes a narrow view of what efforts have been undertaken and whether these efforts have been successful. There is a dearth of theoretical research in the field of improving team communication in terms of broad applicability to different types of organizations. This paper examines the efforts to improve team communication in the context of several different types or organizations and makes recommendations about several approaches used in specific organizations that may have applicability to a broader set of organizational structures.

What Makes a Good Teacher

Teaching is probably one of the toughest jobs to do in the world- one of the most serious jobs as well. The methods teachers use to educate and shape their students can affect the outcome of those students’ lives. Good teachers not only need to have passion for their job, but they also need to possess a wide variety of interpersonal skills and educational knowledge. Before determining whether or not a teacher is good or bad, one must first go deeper to define the definition of what constitutes a good teacher. I do not agree with Parker J. Palmer’s theory that the key to a good teacher is the ability to teach passionately.

The Tolowa Tribe of Oregon

The Tolowa Native Americans are a tribe that has lived in California and Southern Oregon for centuries. In the 1800s the Tolowa had a territory that ranged from the Klamath River all the way to California (Massey and Vilson, p89). The Tolowa also had some territory that was farther inland away from the coast, but they primarily lived near the coast. The inland territory was used as a spot for hunting trips to bring food back to their main settlements near the mouth of the river and down along the coast. At the time, the Tolowa lived in a number of different villages spread all through their territory. The Tolowa built houses made of redwood and their villages were designed for permanent living, but in their inland territories they often lived in temporary shelters used when they were ion hunting expeditions. In this time the Tolowa did not see themselves as one large tribe, and were loyal to their individual villages (Pritzker, p88, 1998).

American Dream

INTRODUCTION

In this semester, I have learned the definition of the American Dream, cultures’ fight to achieve their financial and social goals and the characters’ experience in The Raising in the Sun. I have learned how to interpret different types of writing and understand the sociological patterns. The works studied have helped me achieve a better understanding of the history of the United States, the sociological movements and the perception of personal achievement by different classes. In the below essay I would like to discuss the pattern of American Dream and the processes throughout the society during the 20th Century society. I would like to prove the thesis: “The American Dream is not a single idea but a movement that goes on and fights the political forces for equality, opportunity, self-expression and freedom.

An Argument in Favor of Gay Marriage

Gay marriage is one of the most explosive issues of our time, in so far as it raises questions about what concepts such as the family, justice and even love mean in our social discourse. The arguments against gay marriage tend to emphasize how the recognition of homosexual love destroys the family structure. However, how can certain rights be attributed to one group and not another in a society that claims to be democratic? The support of gay marriage is thus the support of a concept of social justice without any exceptions and a commitment to democracy itself.

Essays on Issues of Cheating

First Task: Topic Proposal

The topic I hope to explore is the idea of utilizing references in school and not actually giving regard to the authors of such materials when they are being used in a research. This is often called as ‘plagiarism’. I chose to explore this particular issue, as it does seem very rampant among students today to simply resort to plagiarism than to write their own papers or create properly referenced researches (Green, 2006, 57). With the influx of information through the internet, students often disregard the importance of proper referencing thus falling into the pits of plagiarism (Bouville, 2010, 68).

Successful or Not?

When determining whether or not person is successful, one should not make a logical decision based on what they see and experience. Long-term and short-term results, successes and failures of the person should be taken into account. Some people seem to be very successful, but after a period of time, you will find that they are actually not that successful in the grand scheme of things. While a person may be successful in terms of business, they may fall short in other areas of their life- such as their personal life. People who strive for success in their personal life may see failures in their business life. Balancing success in all areas of one’s life can be very challenging.

Judith Sargent Murray and “On the Equality of the Sexes”

The women’s role is in the home, in the kitchen, and taking care of the children. This old thinking has been around since the days of the bible, but throughout history many women have risen up to combat that theory whether in literature, politics, movies, or music. When Judith Murray published her landmark essay she helped to pioneer movement in women’s rights at a time it did not exist. Judith Murray’s ideals in her essay, “On Equalities of the Sexes” helped to influence other literary figures as activists in Great Britain and in the United States on women equality. In the 18th century ideas regarding gender equality were extremely radical views, however her essay was a success. In this critical evaluative essay, it will critic the essay by Judith Murray by giving more insight while providing literary evidence to support the thesis.

Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague

“Why do you let yourself love an infant so? I warned you, did I not, to school your heart against this? It was true. Aphra had seen three of her own babies into the ground before their first year, one through fever, one through flux, and one, a lusty boy, who had just stopped breathing in his bed, with nary a mark upon him. I had stood with her through all these deaths, marveling at her dry eyes. (Brooks, 2002)”

The American Dream and A Raisin in the Sun

EVERYONE’S DREAM (EVENTS)

The Raising in the Sun is a screenplay that addresses stigma, racial and social problems in the 1950-s American society. It is about disappointment, despair and hopes of people living in the Chicago Ghetto. With the philosophy of making the future better, they are hard working people with a dream. Everyone has their dreams in the play: Lena Younger looks at his son with pride and his grandson, trying to teach them pride, belief and hard-working life. Walter Lee has greater dreams than that. He sees the society being divided into “poor and rich” as well as “black and white”. He wants more from his life than being a white rich person’s chauffeur, and certainly wants more for his family. Ruth lives for her family, her dream is a better home with more sunlight and no cockroaches. She would be happy to get out of the ghetto. Beneatha wants to be a doctor, help people and have a social standing. All these dreams seem to depend on the insurance check Lena is receiving after his husband’s death. However, when all the money is gone, dreams seem to be shattered, there seems to be no way out.

Why is Cheating Wrong?

Cheating is wrong not only because it robs the individual of the chance to learn and digest new information, but it also may lead to an increase in cheating in the student’s future educational career, and can even carry into their work career.
